Tickle Time

Dear Ahia and Meimei,

Your a-em started a “meme” (hihi, it’s a blogging term) and I’m joining it… It’s called LOVING MAMA MOMENTs.  So for my 1st entry, I am writing you about our tickle time. It’s that 5-10 minutes a day that’s dedicated to tickling each other.  I tickle you and you get to tickle me as well… It’s so much fun!  There are even times that you’re the ones who initiate the tickling and tell me, “MAMA, TICKLE TIME!”  This is enough proof that you love it as much as I do 🙂

Usually, we tickle the neck, the “kili-kili” and ears.  You’re both very ticklish so as long as you’re already laughing, almost anywhere I touch you, you giggle, scream and burst in laughter.  No matter what the day brings, I always make sure we have our tickle time before we hug and kiss goodnight.  So here you are in one of our tickle times 🙂

Oh, by the way, sometimes, papa joins the tickle fun too ;-D

Birthday Pictorial

Dear Meimei,

This is my first time to join PINK FRIDAYs and for my 1st entry, I’m posting your pictorial when you turned 2 years old… I would want to expose you to other colors, specifically purple (as it is my favorite color), but then, most baby girl stuff given to you and on sale are all in PINK! So right now, your favorite color is also pink 😀 Whatever color you like is fine with me because I think as long as you wear that pretty smile on your face, you’ll always look beautiful sweetypie 🙂 Together with this pink dress, you also had green bunny costume and your floral dress for our family picture. But since it’s PINK FRIDAY entry, I’ll just post you in your pink dress in this letter.  You look lovely my dear.

Your papa and I started this traditional studio pictorial when your ahia turned 2 years old here in China.  We always start with the family photo followed by the costumes pictorial.  We hope to go on with this for as long as we have the resources to do so. When you’re all grown, you can look back and see how your faces have changed over the years.  You can also follow this when you both have your little ones as well. 🙂

Love,

Mama

Teachable Two

Dear Meimei,

Yippe! You’re officially in the “tiny tot” age! And what does that mean?  Some people describe it as a terrible two stage, and there’s even a website labeled terribletwos! But that’s not how I look at you sweety pie.  Even with your ahia, I can honestly say he was never terrible as what those websites declare.  It was even a big time for him to adjust because we moved to China when he was 23 months… yet in spite the new environment, your papa and I didn’t have problems with him.  Yes we did have difficult times, but hey, even us adults have those days we don’t feel good and we just want to be ourselves or even do “not so nice things”, but that doesn’t mean we’re TERRIBLE…  So when you become a mom someday, never label your kids terrible two ok?  It’s a matter of perspective and the more we believe in the best in our kids, the more we’ll be amazed at how wonderful they could really become at this stage.

According to Erik Erikson, this is the WILL stage wherein you learn to develop wither Autonomy – a sense of being able to handle many problems on your own, or Shame and Doubt if your caregiver, (of course it’s me and papa) refuse to let you perform tasks of which you are capable, or ridicule your early attempts at self-sufficiency.

Your pa and I allow you certain limits but in areas where we know you can handle, we give you freedom to try to do it, no matter how many times you have to try, we patiently wait until you get it done right. 🙂

You are very teachable plangging.  The day we went home from your hospitalization on your 3rd surgery which was the colostomy closure, you immediately pooped in the toilet bowl! You were only 10 months and now at age 2, you are 85% toilet trained.  Considering that you’re an IMPERFORATE ANUS baby, this is a miracle because many articles say that kids like you can be expected to be “delayed” in toilet training. For the record, you sat on the toilet seat earlier than your ahia did! 🙂

first time 022210

At 1 year and 3 months you already knew how to blow your nose!  I just showed you how it’s done then you did it on your own.  The older you get, the more teachable you become.  A few months back I started teaching you how to beat the egg and your ahia how to break it.  So now every time we cook and there’s egg, ahia breaks it and you beat it!

Given a paint and a brush, you can paint on your own.  Given paper and pen, you can draw on your own.  Given toys, you can also play on your own.  However, there are still times (of course) that you say, “MAMA TEACH ME PLEASE.”  I know you just want to spend more time with me, or I guess, you like the tickle time which is usually part of our play time. 🙂  You also like to read and study. I can go on and on with the list, but I won’t.  You’ll discover them from time to time as I continue to write these letters my dear.

My prayer for you little one is that in the coming days, months and even years, you will be more and more hungry to learn new things, in every area of your life.  Every minute with you is a teaching moment.  I think the only time we stop learning is when we’re sleeping, haha.  But more than anything else, it is my heart’s desire that you and your ahia learn and hunger for God’s presence in your lives, that’s why worship and prayer in each day are never absent.  Every morning, we start the day with watching worship videos, we sing and dance as we worship, and we end the night with prayer.  You already know how to worship God and have memorized our bedtime prayer since you were 16 months. Right now you can declare healing upon family members who are sick and even declare healing upon yourself by saying: BY THE STRIPES OF JESUS I AM HEALED!

I will be forever grateful to God for giving you to us, you are a MIRACLE sweetheart.  Each time we see you, we are reminded of God’s faithfulness, provision, healing, love, joy and many more.  You are a living reminder to your papa and me that God’s goodness will follow us all the days of our lives.

Happy 2nd birthday Meimei… You are indeed, God’s promise of JOY.

I love you.

Mama

Expensive Mistake

Dear Elisha,

I’m writing this letter using papa’s itouch, hihi. It’s finally mine! But I think he’s giving this to you on your birthday ( I think ).  But it depends if I’m letting it go. Hmmm… a few hugs and kisses might just convince me.  Oh, for your information, you got banned from using this since November 2010 due to a very expensive mistake that you committed.  Wanna know what & how much? Ok then read on.

You and papa have this game called Fishes.  In that game you need to buy more fish, corals, pearls & others.  However, those are expensive stuffs so papa didn’t buy any.  For example the pearls cost $99, some fish cost $9.99 and likewise for the corals.  Papa didn’t buy any of those because he thought it was expensive.  But guess what?! You did!!!  You purchased a total of $206!!! Of pearls, fish and other stuff to decorate your ocean!!! How did it happen?  What was papa’s reaction?  Go on reading son…

In the past, papa bought something from itunes and his credit card details were saved in it, however, to purchase something, you have to key in his password.  When we asked you what did you type for the password, you told us papa’s password!  You memorized it because one time, according to you, you saw him key in “the” password as you were beside him.  Talk about memory huh?!  Papa underestimated your capacity to remember but with what happened I’m sure he won’t do that ever again!  🙂
Now let’s go to his reaction…  Knowing your papa, he kept his cool, kept quiet, though he was angry.  He immediately logged in to our credit card billing statement online.  That’s where we learned the $206!!!  I then thought of a way to let you understand what you did by telling you that you had to pay papa using your money that you got from your allowance and rewards.  You had to understand facing the consequence of something you did and since it’s about money, you had to learn it through your money as well.  Oh how you cried when I told you that you had to pay all the money that you earned for 3 months!  You cried so hard and said, “If I don’t have money how can I buy a gift for you on your birthday?  Christmas gifts for you, papa and Meimei?  Birthday gift for angkong and ama?”  It broke my heart and I too almost cried when I heard those words from you.  You had a hard time accepting the consequence of what you did, good thing papa thought of an illustration of  how much money was used. He said, ” With “that” money you can buy 10 boxes of Tipo (that was your favorite biscuit that time), you could eat nearly 20 KFC bucket meals and eat 100 times in Jollibee!”  Funny you commented, ” 100 times in Jollibee?! That’s a lot!”  So we then knew you understood…

After a long time of discussion and explanation, plus a few bucket of tears, you finally agreed to pay off your debt to Citibank. Yes son, it’s your debt because it was your purchase so you had to pay for it using your money.  Although papa gave you some discount because your savings wasn’t enough to pay for everything.

The next day I asked your papa how exactly he felt, he told me he felt like he had a gout attack for 1 whole day!  It was painful but he recovered, haha.  As for you young man, you learned a very important lesson and I’m so proud of you for being man enough to face the consequences which were paying for your debt using your savings, not playing computer for 15 days, and banned from using itouch for a loooooong time! Up to this date you are still banned and though you keep telling me you miss papa’s itouch, you faithfully followed the deal of not touching it. So I guess you can touch the itouch on your birthday, let’s see about that 🙂

It happened 5 months ago yet you still remember what took place last November and I’m blogging this so you’ll remember for life and though it was an expensive mistake, we pray it will spare you from making much more expensive ones and more serious when you’re an adult. As I told your papa, ” We have been blessed with a smart son, so we have to be careful to teach him to use his gift properly”.  When you read this son, know that I am so proud of you that at a young age of 5, you took responsibility of your actions.

Love,

Mama

15 More Days

Dear Meimei,

Today is April 1st and it’s only 15 days away from your 2nd birthday! Am I excited? Kinda! Not because we will have fancy celebration but because you’re gonna be officially stepping into the trainable, teachable, terrific, talented, talkative and totally trendy two year old! Everyday you amaze me with new things and who knows what you’ll be capable on the day you turn 2 years old. You’re learning really fast and now more than ever is the best time to train you in the way you should go as written in Proverbs 22:6.

Initially, your papa and I planned that we will have our Shanghai trip on your birthday since it’s on a Saturday. But since your ama and angkong are coming over on the 22nd, we will just have a simple gathering on your birthday and hopefully the pictorial and will postpone the Shanghai trip to the ZOO when ama and angkong are here. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as you really love watching animals in your videos, so it’s time you’ll see most of them for real! And if we will be allowed to touch them, it’ll be more exciting!

Aside from 15 days away from your birthday, today is also very significant as I will launch this blog into the open 🙂 This is my first entry for this new blog. My previous letters for you and ahia came from my other blog SheWritesYouWrite. It took me 2 whole days and nights transferring them and formatting this blog! But now it’s finally good to go! It is my prayer that not only I and your papa will write letters for you and your ahia, but also family and friends can share and express their love for you both.

It’s now 11:11pm and we’re all still up! You and papa are watching GLEE on the big tv, your ahia just finished writing his letter for me 🙂 and here I am, writing this letter for you.

I love you Meimei, more than you’ll ever know sweatheart… Goodnight!

Love,

Mama

Missing EJ

Dear Elisha,

Today you are 5 years, 4 months and 13 days old to be exact. You went to school with your papa on a rainy day. Temperature outside is about 10 degrees but I let you wear the jacket that auntie Lily gave you (it’s very warm) because tonight, the temperature might drop to 3 degrees. You were coughing a bit and I guess your body’s reacting to the changing season – from Autumn to Winter. As usual, you have your juice with Super C in your bag.

While I was preparing you for school, something was going on in my heart already… I realized you were just a kid and you needed so much love and care… but sometimes, I expect you to behave like an adult… So when you left, tears rolled down my cheeks and I want to write this down so you get to read this someday and know that mama loves you very much.

Sometimes when you’re asleep in the middle of the night, you don’t know it but I kiss your forehead, run my fingers through your hair, look at your face and thank God He gave YOU to us to love and to nurture. I also ask Him to help me because I’m not a perfect mom and there were times I’ve been too hard on you. There was even a time when you told me, “Mom, you hurt my heart when you get very angry at me,” it so struck me that when you and Meimei fell asleep, I read for almost 2 hours and learned about 5 year old kids… and that’s when I learned that everything about you at this stage was normal… and that I needed to change my approach – which was actually very hard to do and until now I am still learning. But know that each time I “pa-pa your bulele” or release some not so nice words to you, it hurts me too. Forgive me EJ if there were times I wasn’t the “funny” mama that you always call me. Moms got hard days too you know, but that isn’t a reason for me to give you one also. I want you to know that I am so proud of how loving a son and a brother you are, and for that, I will be forever thankful to God.

For the record, I miss you each time we’re not together. I miss your smile, your smell, you hair, your hugs and kisses that you give me whenever you feel like it. I miss singing and watching videos with you, your “kiti-kiti” moves, your “kakulitan” – I miss you and everything about you EJ. I even miss reminding you to chew and swallow your food and stop jumping on the bed 🙂 You know I miss you ’cause each time you come home we tell each other how we missed each other during the day, but it’s not as detailed as this one 🙂 So there it goes, when I say I miss you, it’s everything – the good and the not so good parts of our day.

I love you mister Elisha 🙂 and today, I TERRIBLY MISS YOU!

Love,

Mama

18 Wonderful Months

Dear Meimei,

In my Facebook profile my status was: “ Thank you Lord for 18 wonderful and blessed months…” Yes my little one, you’re 18 months old today and the past months have truly been wonderful and full of God’s blessings. They weren’t perfect months but in every difficulty or mishaps, God has always shown HIS favor and HE has never left us.

Allow me to share with you what took place today:

Our day started as the usual weekend – woke up late because we slept late the other night. Had crab and shrimp for lunch (for the three of us) and yours were broccoli and pork 🙂 After lunch you asked for “Titi” (mama’s milk) and of course, fell asleep after that… Both of us did actually. Your papa and ahia however spent the whole afternoon cleaning the aquarium as your papa wanted to give you FISHY for your gift! But because you woke and I woke up late, we weren’t able to buy fish (but we’ll buy them tomorrow) but instead, we went to Walmart. For the first time you rode the Merry-Go-Round, the 4 of us went inside 😀 You got scared as you can see in your pictures but you didn’t cry, you just wanted to hug me while you’re riding. We had a tour in the park and it was just fun.

merry go round

After the fun we did our usual grocery weekend and here you are again on this infant friendly grocery cart… You look like a “DONA” enjoying the ride! The next best thing was… Papa bought you your BOOTS! ” Taray!” 18 months old wearing boots! How I wish I had them when I was your age! It looks great on you and even if the color didn’t match your outfit, you wore it perfectly! Look at you! I’m sure if your Angkong sees your picture he’ll say, “dalagang putut” (little lady)!

first boots

Oh, I thought you’d be interested to know what you’re capable of doing at this time so here’s a few of the significant ones:

1. Eat holding the bowl and drink in a cup with minimal supervision –  I just give you your food. You eat, I eat…

2. Three days ago you started going down the half-step stairs in our village by yourself – I was just right in front of you just  in case you fall you won’t get hurt. But you have shown me you can handle yourself 🙂

3. You are not so interested with singing the ABC’s… you would rather READ – yes my dear, at 17.5 months you started reading and by now, you already know when the words you’re familiar with are upside down.

4. You enjoy watching (just your top favourites):

(a)Praise Baby Collection – your favourite since you were 6 months… this video has been instrumental in our worship time together. You know that when I say “Worship God” you would raise your hands as an act of worship.

(b) Your Baby Can Read – when I say, “Meimei can…” you then say “READ”! you enjoy reading very much!

(c) Baby Signing Time – when I say, “Baby Signing…” you then say “TIME” and sign time 🙂 you like signing especially using the flash cards on your kit 🙂

(d) Jollibee – I let you watch for your Filipino lesson 🙂

(e) Glee – especially Poker Face and Say a Little Prayer (you and your papa watch that almost everynight)

(f) In the Jungle – HAPPY HIPPO, which is also one of your ahia’s favourites

(g) Pictures and Videos of people in Bacolod (especially your Ama and Angkong), babies and animals

5. You can get up and down the bed without any help, you’ve learned this since you were over 15 months

There are so much more I can write about you my “plangging”, but the part that I am most proud of is allowing you to grow being YOU. You have your way of expressing yourself – to show love, anger or delight. Your papa and I have given you freedom to choose, as long as that choice won’t hurt you. You may only be 18 months but we’ve always respected you as a person, a unique one at that.

May you live in the circle of God’s blessing… Completely sorrounded by HIS LOVE.

Happy 18 months baby…
